As Sandwell College opened its doors safely for face-to-face enrolment this week, hundreds of prospective students have taken the opportunity to secure their future on one of over 100 different courses from September. The West Bromwich college has put in place an extensive Covid-19 safety plan to ensure that all prospective students can benefit from on-site enrolment and have access to the full college experience when the new term starts.
After months of uncertainty for school leavers, Sandwell College has prioritised its students to ensure that they can benefit from a rich learning environment.
The college’s September Study Guarantee means that whether your GCSE results were better than expected, or not quite what you were hoping for, your
place is safe and secure.
Why Sandwell College?
Recognised as one of the Midlands’ largest Further Education providers, Sandwell College boasts state-of-the-art facilities which cater for more than 100
courses, offering school-leavers a wealth of opportunities to reach their full potential. Within the college lies seven floors of first-class resources, led by a supportive team of tutors who are experts within their respective fields and will provide hands-on teaching to guide students on their journey into work, education and university. Voted as 2019’s FE College of the Year, the college offers a wide range of options, from apprenticeships to A Level and vocational
courses, so every student will have the chance to develop their skills in whichever area they choose.
Programmes encompass a variety of fields, from automotive to animal care and dog grooming to fashion, whilst facilities such as a simulated dental surgery
and a real aircraft fuselage provide access to real-life working environments. Elsewhere, departments within the college have close connections both across
the region and nationwide, with links including the National Skills Academy and West Bromwich Albion FC. The College also holds strong relationships with leading companies and local organisations, which unlock opportunities to grow prestigious sector-specific experience. All 16 – 18 year olds who are studying
full-time can benefit from free Metro or Bus travel, and a range of financial and welfare packages are available for those who are economically or socially disadvantaged, giving every young person the opportunity to succeed.
How will the college keep me safe?
Over recent months, a Covid-19-safe college plan has been implemented to ensure that learners across every subject are able to receive a safe and fulfilling
classroom teaching experience when term begins again. New measures that students can expect to see from September include thermal scanning stations upon entry, enhanced cleaning regimes within communal areas, social distancing within classrooms and routed systems throughout the site.
Graham Pennington, Principal of Sandwell College, said: “There has been a lot of uncertainty over recent months, but we want to reassure school leavers that they can expect to receive the usual high quality standard of teaching from Sandwell College, delivered within a safe environment.
“Our team has worked incredibly hard to create a safe place from which students from any background and of any ability can thrive, and we are committed to providing them with all the tools they need to continue their learning journey and move closer towards their chosen careers. It has been fantastic to welcome so many prospective students on site this week for enrolment, and to speak to them in person about their future at Sandwell College, as well as provide tailored guidance and advice. Please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or visit the college – we value all past, current and future students and will help find the best path for you.
“I am excited not only to welcome back returning students, but to also see new faces at Sandwell College, and look forward to celebrating their individual
achievements, as our students prepare for a future that is filled with success.”
