This Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner course is for people who want to work with children or who already work in this area. The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years. It helps you understand what makes good quality childcare. The course covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas including early years and social care, so you'll develop the skills you need for your career. Lessons will take place Thursday 9-12PM.
You will need Maths and English GCSEs at grade D or above. You'll need to be working or prepared to undertake a voluntary Early Years Placement. All applicants are interviewed to make sure the course is right for them. A DBS check will be required so that students can complete work placements as part of the course.
The Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner course teaches the theory and practice behind the roles of Nursery Assistant, Classroom Assistant and Pre-school Assistant.

During the course, you will aim to work 250 placement hours in childcare settings.
The department puts on a range of activities and trips for learners, with a week put aside each term to focus on your personal development, team skills and experience of the wider world beyond where we live and learn.
Assessment is by a combination of observations, written assessments, set tasks and other evidence.
The Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner course is an excellent preparation for the Level 3 Childcare and Education Diploma or the Level 3 Children and Young People's Workforce Diploma.
