You'll need to demonstrate a desire to work in the Travel and Tourism industry and the ability to write and converse in English.

This Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism is a high-quality foundation course covering a range of topics, some of which are specific to Travel, Aviation and Hospitality, and others to develop your wider skills.

You will study the BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism which includes units such as: Visitor Attractions, Exploring the UK as a Destination, Customer Service and Events.

Other units are linked to personal development, such as Working as a Team, Research Projects, and Being Organised.

Functional Skills qualifications will enhance learners’ basic skills in Maths and English - an entry requirement for many jobs in the Travel, Aviation and Hospitality sectors.

During the year-long study programme, you will complete 30 hours of work experience, linked to your main qualification, which will further develop your skills and allow you to put the theory you have learned into practice.

All learners on our Travel, Aviation and Hospitality courses are required to purchase and wear our travel uniform. Full details are given during enrolment.

Learners have the opportunity to participate in study visits to local attractions and employers.

Most trips are subsidised by the college. Recent outings include Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and the Black Country Living Museum.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including role plays, reports, presentations and teamwork exercises.

There are no external exams on the main programme. However, if you are resitting Maths or English, you will be assessed through exams.

This sector is one of the largest employers in the West Midlands. You will be surprised at the vast amount of careers available within this growing sector.

After successfully completing this course, you can go on to study any Level 2 qualification – in particular, our Level 2 Travel and Tourism Education Programme.

Alternatively, you could begin your career in the Travel, Aviation and Hospitality industry.
