This two-year course is for those who wish to complete their formal Further Education (FE) teaching qualification. You may be coming from industry and wish to teach in the Post 16 sector (either privately or within Further Education colleges) or you may have been an unqualified lecturer for some time wishing to gain your full teaching qualification.
You must have at least a Level 3 qualification in the area that you want to teach.
You must have English GCSE at grade C or Level 2, and be willing to demonstrate Level 2 at maths and work towards this qualification.
You must secure 120 hours of teaching over the two years – about 60 per year – and provide written confirmation of this.
Year 1:
Module 1: Introduction to Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Module 2: Subject Specific Studies
Module 3: Professional Development 1
Year 2:
Module 1: Subject Specific Studies and E-learning
Module 2: Curriculum Policy and Practice
Module 3: Professional Development 2
120 hours of teaching across the two years.
Course hours are every Tuesday, 10am - 4pm. The cost is £2975 but Student Finance is available.
You will be assessed by practical tasks, academic written assignments, poster presentations and teaching observations.
You can top up to a BA (Hons) Degree in Post Compulsory Education, and then progress to an MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Learning.
