Course summary

This Level 3 Travel and Tourism Education Programme is a two-year course aimed at school leavers aged 16+, and gives you the detailed and in-depth knowledge needed to progress to university or into employment in the travel industry.

Course requirements

You'll need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4, including English and Maths.

This is an in-depth, high-quality course covering a range of topics, some of which are specific to Travel, Aviation and Hospitality, and others to develop your wider skills.

You will work towards the following qualifications over two years:

  • NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to Cabin Crew
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Aviation Operations on the Ground (Check-In)

The main NCFE qualification is the equivalent of 3 A Levels.

Learners will complete 18 units including:

  • Exploring the UK as a Destination
  • Specialist Tourism
  • Cruise
  • Worldwide Airlines
  • Travel Agents
  • Tourism Destinations

Each year, learners will complete 30 hours of work experience which will allow them to put the theory they have learned into practice. Previous learners have completed placements at companies such as Premier Inn, Co-Operative Travel and Black Country Living Museum.

All learners on our Travel, Aviation and Hospitality courses are required to purchase and wear our travel uniform. Full details are given during enrolment.

During the study programme, learners have the opportunity to participate in study visits to local attractions and employers. Most trips are subsidised by the college, and are a mixture of day trips and residential visits. Recent study visits have included Dubai, Goa, Florida, a three-day mini-cruise and Alton Towers.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways including role plays, reports, presentations and teamwork exercises.

There are no external exams on the main programme. However, if you are resitting Maths or English, you will be assessed through exams.

On successful completion of the Level 3 Travel and Tourism Education Programme, you will achieve the equivalent of 3 A Levels and 48-168 UCAS points. You can then apply for university courses in subjects such as Tourism Management, Cruise Management or Aviation Management.

After successfully completing this course, you can begin your career in the Travel, Aviation and Hospitality industry. Previous students have progressed into employment with major companies such as Premier Inn, Ramada Hotels and Swissport.
