Sandwell College’s Automotive race team competed against Formula 1 legends Damon Hill and Johnny Herbert in an exhilarating endurance event.

Staff and students raced against Williams, McLaren Automotive and Aston Martin F1 teams at the Damon Hill Karting 2024 charity event held at Sandown Daytona Karting track.

Demonstrating their impressive driving skills, several Sandwell students set the fastest laps of the two-and-a-half-hour race. Mikolaij and Leon drove quickly and safely, while Liam put in an amazing performance, fighting hard against other drivers and nearly earning the team an even better result.

Highlights of the event included John Sheldon’s blistering drive, which propelled the team from 32nd place up to 14th. Motorsport lecturer Nigel Briscoe also put in an excellent performance, battling wheel-to-wheel with the former racing driver and Sky Sports F1 pundit Johnny Herbert.
