What are T Levels?
T Levels are two-year technical qualifications developed with employers to ensure students gain the skills and knowledge needed for their chosen industry. They are equivalent to three A Levels and combine classroom learning with practical experience, preparing students for skilled employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

Who is this course for?
This T Level is designed for learners aged 16-19 who wish to work in the digital services industry, specifically in Cyber Security.

Course Structure:

  • 80% Classroom Learning – Students study 14 core topic areas relevant to the Digital industry.

  • 20% Industry Placement – A minimum of 45 days on placement with an employer to gain on-the-job technical skills.

Year-by-Year Breakdown:

  • Year 1: Students will study a digital services common core.

  • Year 2: Students will specialise in Cyber Security.

As part of the course, students will also complete a work-based project, applying the skills and knowledge they have gained in a real-world setting.

You should have 6 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.

Occupational specialism (Year 2)

In the second year, students will undertake their chosen pathway. Specialist content is structured into different occupational specialisms. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to enter employment in their occupational specialism.

Topics include:
• Digital security of an organisation and its data
• Advice for security risk assessment
• Reliable sources of knowledge

Industrial placement
• 315 hours of industrial placement
– Taster sessions delivered by employers
– A group project set by the employer
– Hands-on industry experience at an employer’s company

Activities are linked to employers, such as site visits. You will also benefit from a work readiness programme to develop your essential skills.

  • IT Support or Infrastructure Technician

  • Cyber Security Administrator or Analyst

  • Incident Response Technician

  • Security Architect or Engineer

Further Study Options:
Students can progress to a higher-level apprenticeship or university in fields such as:

  • Cyber Security or Network Engineering

  • Computer Science or Programming

  • Database or Cyber Security Management
