You don’t need qualifications or previous work experience to join the course, it’s more important that you have the right personal qualities and have a passion for helping others.
However, you will take short ‘multiple choice’ tests in English and Mathematics prior to joining the course to check you have enough English and Mathematics knowledge and skills to work in an entry level Adult Care job. If you need further support with your English and/or Mathematics, the College will provide FREE training to get you up to the standard needed to re-apply for this course.
By the end this course, you’ll have the knowledge and skills needed to do a variety of entry-level adult care jobs, along with the confidence and know-how to get your first adult care worker role.
Whilst on the course you will learn about:-
· The Role of an Adult Care Worker
· The Professional Skills, Attitudes and Behaviours needed to be an Adult Care Worker
· The ‘Duty of Care’
· How to Communicate effectively when working in Care Settings
· How to be a ‘Team Player’ when working in Care Settings
· How to write Winning Applications for Jobs in the Adult Care
· How to Ace Interviews for Adult Care Jobs
During the course, you’ll build up a folder of work which when assessed, should lead to you achieving a ‘Level 2 Certificate for Transition to Working in the Adult Social Care Sector’.
All classes take place from Monday to Friday, starting at 9.30am until 3.30pm at the College’s Tomorrow’s People Centre, 13 Bennetts Hill, Birmingham City Centre. There are lots of bus and tram stops nearby and New Street Station and Snow Hill Station are only a few minutes’ walk away.
Start Date: Monday 6th March 2023
End Date: Friday 31st March 2023
The course is FREE to all people who live in a West Midlands Combined Authority post-code area, who are aged 19 or over and are in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance, Universal Credit or Employment and Support Allowance.
Your local Job Centre may also cover your travel and childcare costs, but this is decided on an individual basis.
After the course, you will do a ‘one day work experience placement’ with a local company during the period 3rd – 14th April 2023. This work experience opportunity will help you learn what a ‘typical working day’ in Adult Care involves.
From the week beginning 17th April 2023, you will be offered an interview for a live local job vacancy in Adult Care.
