This Level 2 Extended Certificate in IT Games/Multimedia/Web is a one-year course designed for learners who wish to develop core skills within the field of Computing and gain a more practical, work-related qualification in IT, equivalent to four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*- C. This qualification opens doors to further study and responsibility within the Computing workplace.

You’ll need four GCSEs at Grade 4/D or above, including English or Maths, or an appropriate Level 1 qualification and an appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy.

The selected units offer learners the opportunity to develop core skills within the field of Computing, present knowledge in a work-related context, giving you the opportunity to develop and apply skills in English and Mathematics in naturally occurring, work-related contexts.

  • Technology Systems (Exam)
  • A Digital Portfolio
  • Creating Digital Animation
  • Software Development
  • Multimedia Products Development
  • Website Development
  • Database Development

Computing students get involved in a range of varied activities as part of their course, from organising gameathons to creating and editing their own magazine.

Successful learners are also recognised for their hard work at a special departmental award ceremony at the end of the year. There may be opportunities to work with employers to develop software for them.

Two of the eight units are exam-based. The rest are assignment-based.

Grades range from Level 2 PP (Pass, Pass) to Level 2 D*D* (Distinction*, Distinction*).

This Level 2 Extended Certificate in IT Games/Multimedia/Web course offers a clear progression route to a Level 3 course in Computing or to an Apprenticeship.

The knowledge, understanding and skills you learn during this course will aid progression to further study and ultimately prepare you to enter the workplace.

This qualification will provide you with a taste of potential employment opportunities in the Information Technology sector such as jobs within computer games development, website development, animation development, database and software development.
