Are you looking for an opportunity to earn while you learn? Then an apprenticeship is right for you!

On this Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Advanced Apprenticeship you can:

  • Gain training whilst you are employed and earning a wage
  • Achieve nationally recognised qualifications
  • Benefit from coaching and mentoring from industry professionals
  • Enhance your career prospects.

This programme usually lasts 18 – 24 months. As a Lead Adult Care Worker you will make a positive difference in someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control. By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the frontline of care delivery you will be instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support.

Lead Adult Care Workers will in some circumstances have delegated responsibility for the standard of care provided and may supervise the work of other care workers. This exercising of autonomy and accountability means leading and supporting others to comply with expected standards and behaviours. Lead Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings. This standard also covers Lead Personal Assistants who can work at this senior level but they may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services, usually within their own home.

The minimum entry requirements for this Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Advanced Apprenticeship are as follows;

  • At least one Grade 4 and above in Maths and English GCSE
  • Demonstrate a passion for the healthcare industry
  • Be at least 16 years of age

You will undertake a diagnostic assessment for both maths and English and a free writing exercise prior to enrolment and should gain a Level 1 in both subject areas.
If you have passed maths and English GCSE with a Grade A* to C (grade 4 or above) or functional key skills at Level 2, and can evidence this with certificate/s, you will not need to take the maths and English functional skills qualification within the apprenticeship programme.

As part of this Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Advanced Apprenticeship you will be taken through the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to be a Lead Adult Care Worker which include:

  • Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
  • Implement/facilitate the specialist assessment of social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals with cognitive, sensory and physical impairments
  • Provide individuals with information to enable them to exercise choice on how they are supported
  • Demonstrate dignity in their working role with individuals they support, their families, carers and other professionals
  • Use and facilitate methods of communication preferred by the individual they support according to the individual’s language, cultural and sensory needs, wishes and preferences
  • Work in partnership with external agencies to respond to concerns of abuse
  • Promote healthy eating and well-being by supporting individuals to have access to fluids, food and nutrition
  • Demonstrate the management of the reduction of infection, including the use of best practices in hand hygiene
  • Develop risk assessments and use them in a person-centred way to support individuals safely including moving and assisting people and objects

All learners will have a dedicated trainer/assessor who will plan learning and support you in the Gateway to End Point Assessment. You may be required to attend college and you will receive regular workplace assessments which will assess competency and you will be required to sit a number of exams during the length of the programme in addition to creating a portfolio of learning.

20% of the training will be delivered off the job and this can include: Simulation, online learning or training from employers, shadowing, mentoring, industry visits, attendance at competitions and support in writing assignments.

You will need to pass the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care and have completed the Care Certificate. You will then be independently assessed by a 3rd party through a synoptic end-point assessment which will include two distinct components. Firstly, the completion of a situational judgement test answered through a multiple choice exercise and secondly a professional discussion. The assessment will demonstrate that the apprentice can apply their knowledge, skills and behaviours in an integrated way and will satisfy the requirements for the award of an apprenticeship certificate.

On successful completion of the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Advanced Apprenticeship, you can progress to a Level 4 Lead Practitioner in Adult Care.
