Sandwell College Business students brought their innovative ideas to life in 3D by enhancing original designs to match their vision.
During their visit to the Fab Lab, Level 1 learners were tasked with developing a new business idea, aimed at improving an existing concept, through to persuasively pitching their proposals to potential stakeholders.
Selecting a design from Thingiverse – a platform showcasing user-created 3D models – they then used the Cura app to make two key modifications to the original.
Once the modifications are complete, demonstrator Ben Haddock and technician Dave Stokes will be assisting the students to print their designs with a 3D printer.
To test the feasibility and strength of their ideas, students will be pitching their improved concepts to an audience, including three Dragons’ Den style judges who will evaluate and vote on the best idea.
Business tutor Kulwinder Kaur said: “Through this unit, students not only have the chance to experience the hands-on process of product design and innovation, but also to gain valuable skills in preparing and presenting a convincing business proposal.
“It emphasises the importance of thorough preparation, research, and confidence, ensuring that they are well-equipped to present their ideas effectively and persuasively to potential stakeholders.
“This experience helps students understand the key principles of entrepreneurship, from idea generation to pitching, while also encouraging creativity and critical thinking.”
