Myths and mysteries surrounding dyslexia were uncovered at the annual Dyslexia Awareness Day, celebrated by students and staff at Sandwell College.
A whole range of displays and activities took place in the atrium, including a live short sketch by Performing Arts students, and a ‘tree of words’ competition for people to describe what dyslexia means to them.
Competition winner and fashion student Kiante Prince wrote: “Dyslexia is a different way of seeing things…people with dyslexia often see things from a different perspective.”
The film The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia, directed by Robert Redford’s son James, was shown in the college theatre to mark the occasion – with A2B students making and decorating popcorn cones for the audience’s refreshments.
Photography students captured images of the event and there was also a quiz and pinhole treasure island raffle by construction students.
Quiz winner Mujgam Mehri from the ESOL department won a day trip for two, kindly donated by the college’s Student Union.
Dyslexia coordinator Hilary Moore said: “We appreciate all the support we have had with this event and it was great to see everyone involved.”
