Construction students showed their real potential in an industry challenge set by two of Europe’s most prominent and innovative engineering and construction companies.

Level 3 Carpentry and Painting & Decorating students worked together to build a tower using limited materials in a tight time limit, before presenting their plan for development, at LM Joint Venture in Birmingham City Centre.

Laing O’Rourke and Murphy have come together to form LM, a powerful joint venture, working to deliver the northern section of HS2’s phase one enabling works.

Both companies are leaders in rail infrastructure delivery, tunnelling, bridge construction, civil engineering, offsite manufacturing and digital engineering and have a wide range of employment opportunities on offer.

During the challenge day LM volunteers shared their routes into employment along with advice ranging from CV completion, networking tips and ways in which to proactively make first impressions count.

The College is working with Enabling Enterprise to develop students’ essential workplace skills ready for their next steps into employment in the construction industry.
