This Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Working in Health, Lifestyle and Science Industries course has been designed for adult learners who wish to pursue a career in the health and social care sector. The purpose of this qualification is to develop the transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed for learners to progress to further study and ultimately to employment. As a Level 1 qualification, the pass standard requires learners to complete routine, simple and directed tasks by applying their knowledge and skills. It is expected that learners complete tasks fully under supervision, direction or with guidance. At merit and distinction levels, learners may be expected to complete tasks in greater detail or with greater confidence or independence.

All learners will study core units that focus on key transferable skills such as research and planning, time management and working with others.
Learners will also take a number of sector units. The content of the sector units offers a broad introduction to the skills and knowledge within that sector allowing the delivery to be practical and active in order to engage the learners.
For health and social care, the units cover activities such as presenting information to advise others about healthy lifestyles, providing a creative activity or supporting people to use adapted equipment.
The Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Working in Health, Lifestyle and Science Industries course will be 2 full days per week which will include the vocational qualification plus Maths and English at level 1.
Learning is assessed by a variety of methods to prepare you to study at Level 2. These include written assignments, work booklets, presentations and tutor observation.
All of the assessment criteria in a unit must be met before the unit is deemed to be achieved. The unit achievement is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, and there is an expectation that to progress to the Level 1 qualifications students will need to be working towards a Merit and Distinction level.
You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who will support you throughout your period of study to enable progression by setting professional and personal targets.
