About DOG GROOMING
Physically and emotionally challenging yet ultimately so rewarding! This is what a career in animal care and dog grooming can mean for you and your future. Experience of working with animals is vital in this industry. We can help you to gain this experience with our work-based courses and vital practical placements. You may even be inspired to open your own shelter, care centre, boarding kennels or dog grooming salon. Alternatively, you may progress to an education route, lecturing others on aspects of animal care and passing on your expertise. We are proud members of the Pet Industry Federation, the membership association for pet industry specialists in the UK. We want to ensure high standards of animal care education and dog grooming training to produce the best people for the job. So take your career to the next level.
We can help you to gain vital experience of working with animals in our industry-standard grooming salons, helping to support your application and entry into the dog grooming profession.
Our commercial Tails of Sandwell salon is industry-standard and open to the public, and we have even created a second salon treatment room due to demand from our satisfied clients. Breeds you’ll care for include wirehaired dogs such as West Highland Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Fox Terrier, Jack Russell, Border Terrier, Scottish Terrier and Schnauzer. Wool coated breeds include Poodle, Bichons, Cavapoo and Cavichon. You’ll learn to look after double coated breeds such as Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Pomeranian and Pekinese. You’ll style silky coated breeds such as Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Cocker Spaniel and Cavalier, and you’ll groom corded coated breeds such as Hungarian Puli and Komondor. Industry skills are taught by our knowledgeable and highly experienced staff, who have worked in the field and managed their own salons. As a dog stylist you’ll learn proper pampering techniques to care for curly coated doodles and mixed breeds, and you’ll promote dogs’ wellbeing with a range of treatments, from coat styling for pedigree dogs to dematting our four-legged friends. We share your passion to understand dogs as individuals and help to improve their quality of life.
We also run annual trips to Crufts, and we work with organisations including Birmingham Dogs Home and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
