One in five LGBTQ+ people have experienced a hate crime or incident because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the last 12 months.* Anti-LGBTQ+ abuse extends far beyond acts of hate and violence on our streets. Many LGBTQ+ people still endure poor treatment while using public services and going about their lives. While we have come so far in the past 25 years, it is clear that much must still be done before all LGBTQ+ people can feel safe, included and free to be themselves in Britain today.
Here at Sandwell College we want to raise awareness of the issues facing LGBTQ+ people, as well as celebrating diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity. We would love to have some posters, designed by our own students, that do just this!
So, we have launched a competition. Posters should be A3 size with your name and person code written on the back: the deadline for entry is Friday 12th April and first prize is £30 of Amazon Vouchers. There will be other prizes and the plan is to produce a display ready for One World Day at the college on the 2nd May.
