Sandwell College was proud to welcome regional employers to its Construction Business Breakfast this morning with high profile speakers on the guest list!
Employers were invited to support the West Midlands Combined Authority Construction Gateway project, which is dedicated to recruiting currently unemployed people into the sector at no cost to businesses.
Dara McCarthy of RMF Construction Services, Sandwell College’s delivery partner for the Gateway training, shared his direct experience of giving candidates real-life work experience on their new purpose-built 22-acre training site.
Corin Godsmark of Balfour Beatty spoke about the combined efforts of prime contractors to recruit local unemployed people into meaningful sustainable employment, particularly with the Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust and the Sandwell Aquatic Centre for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
West Midlands Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner Ashley Bertie thanked Sandwell College for the opportunity to promote the employment of ex-offenders in the Construction industry. He said: “This is a gap we should be exploiting and manipulating so as a society we profit. We want to support and encourage organisations, exemplifying your work, to ensure that all people – regardless of their background – get their opportunities.”
