Male swimming competitor

Sandwell College sports student Adam Horton is set to represent the region in national swimming championships for the second time.

Adam has once again qualified to represent the West Midlands at the AoC Sport National Championshsips at Bath University during Easter. He is setting his sights on silver after winning bronze last year.

The college sport National Championships is one of the largest annual sporting events in England, involving more than 1,800 college students and 200 staff.

FE Sports Coordinator Matt Hammett said: “This is a very proud moment for the college as Adam had the honour of doing so last year and has clearly worked very hard by maintaining his standard in the pool and thus keeping his place on the West Mids swim team. “We are really pleased that Sandwell College will once again have a presence at this huge college event.”

Last year Sandwell College students scored valuable points to help Team West Midlands secure bronze in the British Colleges Sport National Championships. A team of four travelled to Bath University for the highlight of the college’s sporting calendar to represent the region in swimming and table tennis.

Adam, who is a club member at Stourbridge Swimming Club, provided the best performance of the weekend in the pool, winning bronze for the West Midlands Swim Team in the 50m backstroke and picking up a personal best along the way.

He later helped the relay team win silver, and the regional team secure second place, contributing vital points to the overall West Midlands effort.
