This Foundation Degree is aimed at current practitioners, over the age of 21, who work within early years services in a variety of different settings (for example, in a Nursery or Children’s Centre) and who are seeking a relevant qualification at degree level.

You must:

– be employed or have experience for one/two years of working with children and families, or in a long-term voluntary placement.
– hold a relevant level three qualification (NVQ level 3, NNEB Diploma, BTEC National Diploma, Diploma in Child Care and Education)
-usually be over 21 years old.

Drawing on education, as well as subjects such as psychology, sociology, child health and law, the course is taught on a flexible, part-time basis over two and a half years, which allows you to build your studies around your weekly working commitments. Typical modules covered include Child Development, Child Protection, Childhood and the Changing Family, Early Years Foundation Stage and Children’s Learning and Pedagogy.

Please get in touch for more information.

Students will be assessed through a variety of methods. These include academic assignments and electronic tasks, along with a range of practical assessments. Group and paired working and seminar group activities are also used to engage and assess students.

Successful completion of this course provides future career opportunities including Early Years Professional Status (EYPS), teaching, social work, health education, early years management, or work at varying levels in Sure Start and Children’s Centres. You could find openings in mentoring, children’s information services, project management and play services, or as an educational welfare officer, family support worker or play therapist. You could also progress to the final stages of an honours degree at the University of Wolverhampton – a step that may lead to primary teacher training.
