This two-year Level 6 Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course is for those who wish to complete their formal Further Education (FE) teaching qualification. You may be coming from industry and wish to teach in the Post 16 sector (either privately or within Further Education colleges) or you may have been an unqualified lecturer for some time wishing to gain your full teaching qualification.
You must have at least a Level 3 qualification in the subject area that you want to teach.
You must have English GCSE at Grade C/4 minimum. Alternatively, a Level 2 English qualification will be accepted.
You must have Maths GCSE at Grade C/4 minimum. Alternatively a Level 2 Maths qualification will be accepted.
You will complete Maths and English assessments as part of the interview process for the course.
You must secure 120 hours of teaching over the two years – about 60 per year – and provide written confirmation of this.

Module 1: Introduction to Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Module 2: Subject Specific Studies
Module 3: Professional Development 1
Year 2:
Module 1: Subject Specific Studies and E-learning
Module 2: Curriculum Policy and Practice
Module 3: Professional Development 2
120 hours of teaching across the two years.
Teaching placement/hours 250 = 150 hours direct teaching and 100 hours of teaching related activity.
Fridays 9.30AM-3.30PM
Cost £3050/year
Applicants must have access to teaching hours for the duration of the 2 years.
You will be assessed by practical tasks, academic written assignments, poster presentations and teaching observations.
Following the Level 6 Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) programme, you can top up to the BA (Hons) Degree in Post Compulsory Education, and then progress to the MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Learning.
