Course duration: 1 year Location: West Plaza Start date: 02/09/2024 Course summary: The full-time Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions) offered at Sandwell College currently runs in the daytime, over two days. The course is Level 3 and designed to prepare learners for higher education, offering a variety of subjects in study skills, human biology, psychology and health studies. GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or higher (mandatory).
GCSE Maths at grade C/4 or higher (preferred). If not achieved, you will be expected to study towards Maths alongside your main course.
Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths can be accepted as an alternative to GCSE. However, please note that it is your own responsibility to ensure that these qualifications will be accepted by universities and future employment.
Some universities will only accept GCSEs to meet entry requirements. They may also require you to have additional GCSEs for some courses, including Science for some pathways.
Level 3 Access to HE Diploma (60 credits) of which 45 credits are graded.
Modules include Skills for Learning, Psychology, Biology and Health Studies.
The cost of the course is ÂŁ3384 which can be covered by the Advanced Learner Loan (if applicable). The cost of UCAS application is ÂŁ27.50.
Due to the nature of the course, it is recommended that you have access to your own computer or laptop and a good level of ICT skills.
Graded units are assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
A variety of assessment methods will be used throughout the course including essays, reports, presentations, group discussions, timed assessments, posters.
Upon completion of the qualification, you can progress onto higher education to study towards an undergraduate degree or an apprenticeship degree. Careers include Adult or Children’s Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Forensic and Applied Biology, Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Criminology, Physiotherapy, Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Primary Education and other allied healthcare professions.
