‘Becoming a Green Energy Superpower’ is a key theme for Colleges Week 2025 – and we are shining a spotlight on our Automotive team, who are driving the future of sustainable transport.
Nigel Briscoe is one of our expert Automotive lecturers, who is equipping the next generation of skilled professionals with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the evolving electric and hybrid vehicle industry.
As the shift toward green energy accelerates, our students are developing essential skills in EV and hybrid technology, ensuring they are ready for the fast-changing automotive sector. From cutting-edge training to real-world experience, we’re empowering students to be at the forefront of the green energy revolution.
Nigel says: “The Government target is for all vehicles to be EV by 2035, so our learners have got to be prepared for it. As the years pass by there will be fewer and fewer conventional gasoline and diesel engine vehicles on the road and in the garages, so they have to be ready.
“Over the last few years we’ve been fortunate enough to have been able to invest in EV and hybrid vehicle technology, along with the training equipment that we need, so we’ve got the diagnostics and all the relevant safety equipment in order to be able to work on electric vehicles in the industry.
“As we see more electric and hybrid vehicles in the garage industry, we’re going to need to adapt the training needs of our students. Currently all of our learners from Level 1 onwards have to do at least one unit which gives them some basic understanding of the hazards that are around and some of the more basic components that you will find on an EV or a hybrid vehicle.”
