Principals with Cadbury students celebrating results

Staff and students at the Sandwell College family of colleges in Birmingham and the West Midlands have been celebrating record A Level, T Level and BTEC success, ahead of what promises to be another buzzing enrolment season.

Students at Central Saint Michael’s Sixth Form in West Bromwich have achieved exceptional results, building on the university-style sixth form’s strong track record. Students achieved a 99% pass rate in all A Level subjects and BTEC diplomas – well above the national average – with many students getting the top grades. No less than 30 different subjects and qualifications saw a 100% pass rate.

Cadbury Sixth Form College is also celebrating with an increase in the pass rate for the third year running, reflecting the hard work of both staff and students, who have embraced the ethos of the Sandwell family tradition of success. Alongside a high number of university acceptances, the results have enabled students to secure a broad range of opportunities including further education, apprenticeships and work placements.

Excellent results were secured for the very first cohort of students studying T Level courses at Sandwell College. Results for Engineering, Computing and Automotive BTEC students have seen a surge this year too, providing a solid foundation for the future of our brand-new STEM centre set to launch at the heart of West Bromwich. Performing and Visual Arts, Business Studies, Travel and Hospitality are also among those thriving curriculum areas for this year.

Graham Pennington, Principal and Chief Executive at Sandwell College said: “I am incredibly proud of the results from across our family of colleges. Staff and students have all worked exceptionally hard, and these results are testament to their focus on achieving their very best.

“We can’t wait to see what this talented class of 2023, who have bucked the national trend with even higher results, go on to accomplish next. This demonstrates clearly how tirelessly our staff and students have worked to ensure that any difficulties posed by Covid to learners’ education have been overcome.

“This week we will be welcoming our new and returning students who will benefit tremendously from the millions of pounds we have invested in new facilities across the College family, including our advanced engineering centre opening in West Bromwich and a dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing campus at Cadbury, to help them make their future ambitions come true.

“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure any school leavers who are nervously awaiting their GCSE results. My message to you is please don’t worry, however your results turn out. We will have an option for you across the broad range of 100+ courses our Colleges are able to offer – with every subject from Health and Social Care, Construction and Hairdressing to Digital Design, Law, Psychology and many more. Our teachers are experts in giving advice and guidance to make sure your choice after school is the right one for you.

“We offer every single one of our students free bus or metro travel throughout the year, whatever their circumstances, and there is also extra help available for anyone eligible for financial support. So please do come and talk to us.”

Enrolment across all three colleges starts on Thursday 24th August at Cadbury Sixth Form College, Central Saint Michael’s Sixth Form and Sandwell College.
