Highly talented hairdressing students from Sandwell College showed off their creative flair and sharpened their technical skills in the tough world of competition at the AHT Midland Regional Finals.
Once again we were proud to host the heats for the second year running, with 72 learners from Sandwell competing out of a total 272 learners from across the Midlands.
Congratulations to all competitors placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the regional finals who will now travel to Blackpool on May 11 and 12 for the National Finals.
The whole Hair and Beauty team were involved in the preparations, supporting their students and running Gifted and Talented sessions each week for selected learners ahead of competition day.
Thanks to all colleges who travelled far and wide to our venue to compete including:
– (NWSLC) North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College
– Halesowen College
– Kidderminster College
– IEG Stamford College
– IEG Peterborough College
– College of West Anglia
– West Suffolk College
– Loughborough College
– Burghley Academy
Also thanks to our external visitors:
– Our supplier Alan Howard handed out goody bags to learners and offered a 15% discount card for their warehouse. Store Manager, Dave Gilbert, shared: “It has been an amazing day and thank you for inviting us along. I will write about this in my store report. We really need to take advantage of these types of events at college and we look forward to working with you in the future, where we will also bring along a pop-up shop for students to purchase items on the day.”
– BluSky Brands specialising in Brazilian Nano hair extensions had a great day networking with college staff and students at their pop-up stall.
Chair of Midland AHT – our very own Dawn Humphries – said: “What a fantastic day we had. We were all overwhelmed with the standard. Lead Judge Robert Rousseau told us that the skills this year were by far the best they have seen. Staff from other colleges came up to me throughout the day and said what a great venue and commented on the effort that had been put in to make the day a success.”
“I would also like to thank everyone involved from other departments as without their support we could not have had such a successful day. Thank you to our head of department Claire Monk for her planning support, Vice-Chair for AHT Kerry Bayliss for the learners’ outfits, and administrator Kim Hancock for arranging orders, proving what a great team we are.”
