Sandwell College Supporting Vibrant Community at Vaisakhi Celebrations

Sandwell College staff demonstrated their commitment to supporting their local community as they joined the Vaisakhi celebrations in Smethwick.

Tens of thousands of people turned out to enjoy the annual Sikh event on Sunday which marks the birth of the Khalsa on April 13 and the establishment of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

Volunteers from the Gurdwara hosted a range of activities and exhibitions and provided traditional Punjabi food.

College staff were on hand to give out information on courses and career pathways to interested visitors, and assist them with their applications.

Quality Compliance & Learning Technologies Manager, Tejinder Sohanpal, said being part of Sandwell College’s commitment to supporting the local community was significant.

“It was great to see the college actively giving back and engaging with the vibrant community. It was a heartening display of unity and collaboration, highlighting the importance of community involvement and solidarity.”

West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street, who also attended the event, stopped by to speak to college staff.
