Sandwell Gets Cooking With Former MasterChef Finalist

Sandwell College students have been cooking up some real culinary delights thanks to one of our support staff who once made it through to MasterChef.
Reena Gupta, administrator for Student Services, competed in the MasterChef Live heats at the BBC Good Food Show in 2012.
Reena showed students how to replicate her signature lamb curry with roasted butternut squash dish, which she cooked live on stage in a bid to be crowned MasterChef Live Challenge Champion.

Following an initiative introduced by our Welfare team, our ‘Sandwell Gets Cooking’ project received funds from Tesco to help develop students’ practical skills in food preparation and nutrition.
Inspired by conversations with students in need of food vouchers, struggling with hunger at college, or lacking cooking and budgeting skills, the Monday afternoon cooking club was born.
The group regularly benefits from the dedicated and passionate support of Zainab from our catering team, who volunteers to help students learn new recipes weekly. It’s also a chance for learners to socialise, enjoy meals in college or take them home to eat.
