Meet Maya Ghazal, a former engineering student at Sandwell College, who continues to inspire the world with her extraordinary achievements.
Maya is the world’s first female Syrian refugee pilot, a trailblazer who exemplifies the power of resilience, determination, and education. After completing her degree in Aviation Engineering with Pilot Studies at Brunel University, she joined the TUI Cadet Scheme, successfully passing all 13 Airline Pilot Licence exams. Maya recently took her first flight on the DA40 aircraft out of Oxford London Airport and is now set to soar even higher as she transitions to the mighty Boeing 737.
Beyond her aviation success, Maya is a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, advocating for refugee rights, the importance of education, and equality in today’s society. Her voice and story are powerful reminders of what can be achieved with the right support, opportunities, and perseverance.
Maya’s journey is a testament to the impact of education and ambition, and we are honoured to have played a part in her story. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
