How Sandwell College support SEND students?
We offer a range of support services designed to meet individual needs, ensuring every student can access learning in a way that works for them.
Specialist Learning Support at Sandwell College:
- Dedicated Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) providing in-class support
- Student Passports outlining personalised learning adjustments
- Exam access arrangements to ensure fair assessment conditions
- One-to-one and small group support in key areas, including Maths, English, and assignment planning

Transition and preparation for College
We work closely with students, families, and schools to ensure a smooth transition into College life. Our support includes:

Hub Extra is our dedicated space for students with Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans, offering:
- Drop-in support for reading, writing, and Maths
- Dyslexia screening and support
- Quiet study spaces and low-stimulus learning environments.
Foundation Learning at Sandwell College
Designed for students who may need a structured, supportive approach to learning, our Foundation Learning programmes offer:
- Small class sizes with additional support
- Focus on employability, life skills, and independence
- Vocational learning options in areas such as hair and beauty, construction, and business enterprise.
Work Experience and Supported Internships
We believe real-world experience is essential. Our work placement and internship programmes help SEND students:
- Develop workplace skills with dedicated job coaching support
- Gain valuable experience in retail, catering, childcare, conservation, and more
- Work towards long-term employment or further education.
Complex Needs Provision
For students with higher needs, our specialist facilities include:
- A dedicated medical room for health and personal care.
- A fully equipped kitchen to develop independent living skills.
- A sensory area with tailored support for sensory processing needs.
- Small, supportive learning environments focused on individual needs.
